Part 2 A

This picture shows what a person might might see if the were walking through town in southern Alabama. It also shows how friendly each person was to another. In our time period, you will hardly ever see people stopping to talk to each other in the center of town. Our town center is just a place filled with shops that people rush in and out of. Not stopping for a minute to take in the fresh air. In this picture, it looks like the man with the cane happened to be taking a walk when the men by the store called him over to talk. I know this is a sterotype but, this picture proves that people in the south are nicer and will talk to anyone. All three of the men in the picture seem like they are enjoying the walk based on the way they are standing and listening to each other. The part of this picture that stands out to me first is the dress of the man leaning on the cane. He seems to have his clothes a bit worn but they also look like he has been working hard in those clothes for several years. I think this photo was taken to show the daily life that a person might have. This picture looks like it was taken with a camera. Something missing from this image is more of the setting. In this picture, you can only see the storefront that these men are sitting in front of but you cannot see anything about the location these people are in. I wonder why the photographer chose to capture this moment in time?

This picture looks like it was taken in the heat of the summer. The houses look they were overcome with plainness. The structure of the homes look like they were build in a haste and made only good enough to provice a little shelter. It makes me feel bad that someone had to live in a house like that when I like in a bigger colorful home. The treatment of theses people was unfair and I do not understand why everyone could not be equal in rights and possessions. The location of the house does not seem fair either. They look like they were built on the side of the road surrounded by nothing but barren wasteland and fields of weeds. Why did the person taking the picture chose this house to be the main focus of their photo. Why didn't they make the grass the focus, why was this house so important?

external image 8c52072t.gifDallas County, Alabama (Coca Cola Shop)
This picture shows the problems our country was facing in this time period. The shaq was falling apart with the wood falling off the roof as well as the sign hanging on a tilt. The location of the shop also makes me wonder how many costumers this franchise actually gets. It looks like it was built on the edge of town. I know there is no color but I can tell that there is no grass near this shop at all, green at least. It seems surrounded by sidewalks and concrete paths covered up by the wodden fences.
I think the audience for this picture is the towns people. The set up of this picture looks like it was a advertisement for this coca cola shop on the edge of town in hope of getting more costumers.

Part 2B
Negro going in colored entrance of movie house on Saturday afternoon, Belzoni, Mississippi Delta, Mississippi
Negro going in colored entrance of movie house on Saturday afternoon, Belzoni, Mississippi Delta, Mississippi
Something that I notice about this picture is that the Negro entrace has a fee. On the otherhand the normal entrace is free. This picture show the unfairness that many negroes faced in the southern states. The black people have to pay $0.10 if they want to go order a soda. The entrance that they were allowed to go in is not even good, it looks like it is the back of the store where they receive deliveries. The words that I notice in this picture are "Dr. Pepper, a bite to eat, colored entrance $0.10. I also notice the stacks of crates that are sitiing on the ground below the staircase the man is going up. These crates are important because it shows that the entrance black people had to take was usually in the back of stores where no one could see them go in. I think this image was made to show how the white people were dealing with the african american people. in this time period, the white people wanted nothing to do with the blacks and I think this photo was taken to show a solution to the problem. If soemone was taking this image today, there certiantaly would not a separate entrance for the black people. In America today, we all learned to work together with each other and accept each other's race and religion. I wonder what part of town this picture was taken. I remeber from history class that buisnesses that allowed blacks inside were usually not located in the center of town. They were usually found on the outskirts to draw attention away from them.

Tourist cabins for Negroes. Highway sign. South Carolina
Tourist cabins for Negroes. Highway sign. South Carolina
This is an example of a cabin a african american would be able to rent if they were traeling. This particular cabin is built on the side of a highway and is covered with vines and weeds. The words in this picture are "Cabins for Colored People." The conditions that these colored people had to endure were unfair and unjust. The location on the side of the highway in a cabin that looks like it would fall over with on strong gust of wind. The thing that I noticed first about this picture is the overgrown weeds covering the cabin. I don't know about you but, I do not find it inviting to stay in a place that looks like this. Something missing from this image is the people who are forced to stay here. I would like to see the expression of people who have no choice but to stay in a cabin like this. i think that the expression in their faces would make people realize how awful it is to be treated like this.

Negro drinking at "Colored" water cooler in streetcar terminal, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
This picture shows a colored man at a bus station who is drinking at a water cooler being used by onyl colored people. It is also set off to the side from the white persons drinking water. This picture also shows that this cooler is set back in the corner of the station where it looks like the wall's paint is pealing. The something that I can learn from this photo is that color mistreatment we learned about in movies and books was real. I mean I know it really happend but, you could see that this man has learned to work with his hardships and put up with it even though he fely it was unfair. When I look at this picture, I wonder who this man is? Where is he heading? Why was he putting up with all this color mistreatment?
